European footwear producers said “NO” to cheap shoes imported from China. They have appealed to the European Commission to levy duties on cheap Chinese footwear. Polish manufacturers supported them.
Shoe imports from China have increased sevenfold for the last year. After the abolition of customs duties and fees in 2003, imports from China increased steadily, and in 2004 there were 62 million pairs of shoes imported from China. It also affects Poland, and that is why Polish producers supported the appeal.
